Abstract
:
In this work we study operating system virtualization which allows us run multiple operating systems and user applications on the same hardware simultaneously, where the operating systems are completely isolated from each other logically. If a physical server use a virtualization technology and number of virtual servers are hosted and running on that single physical server, this will increase the information technology data center workload management and responsibility, because an outage of this virtualized sever will cause an outage for all hosted virtual servers. To prevent such situations which it is critical in a virtualized environment, We study how to increase the SAR (Scalability, Availability And Reliability) of the virtualized environment in different levels, starting from files of Operating System level to network, storage design and resources control (memory’s and CPUs). We studied Solaris virtualization technology (Solaris Container), because it is one of the best virtualization technologies. The Solaris operating system and the Solaris virtual environment are not fault tolerant by default. In this study we will build SAR main operating system and its virtual environments (Solaris Containers), by design and implement internal packages in Solaris for network (like IPMP or Aggregation), Storage (like SVM or ZFS), and by optimizing the shared resources (memory’s and CPUs) among the main and its virtual operating systems.
